A Complete Guide for Families in The Woodlands, Texas
by Bri Sullivan Photography – Family Photographer in The Woodlands, TX
Pets are family — and for many of my clients here in The Woodlands, Texas, their dogs (and even the occasional cat!) are a huge part of their story. So it’s completely natural to want to include them in your photo session.
The short answer?
Yes — you can absolutely bring your pet!
With a little planning, we can create beautiful, joyful portraits that include your furry friend in a stress-free way.
Below is everything you need to know before bringing your pet to your session at Bri Sullivan Photography.
🐾 Yes, Pets Are Welcome — With a Few Simple Requirements
I want your session to feel fun, calm, and safe for everyone. To make that happen, here’s what I ask:
✔️ 1. Pets Must Be Well-Behaved and Comfortable in New Environments
Your pet should be friendly, calm, and able to follow basic commands.
If your dog gets extremely nervous, fearful, or overly excited in new places, we can still make it work — we may just need extra planning.
✔️ 2. Dogs Must Stay on a Leash During Outdoor Sessions
Most of our outdoor locations in The Woodlands require pets to be leashed.
Even if they don’t, I still request it for:
- safety
- smoother posing
- easier transitions
We can hide the leash or remove it during editing when needed.
✔️ 3. Pets Must Be Up to Date on All Vaccinations
This protects:
- your pet
- other people and families
- the studio environment
If you’re bringing your pet to the studio, this step is especially important.
✔️ 4. Studio Pet Sessions Are Allowed on a Case-by-Case Basis
The studio is a controlled environment, so not all pets are a good fit. Before confirming a studio session with a pet, I’ll ask for:
- size
- temperament
- energy level
- whether they shed heavily
- whether they’ve been in studio-type environments before
If everything aligns, we’re good to go!
✔️ 5. If You Want Photos With AND Without Your Pet… Bring a Helper!
This is one of the most important steps.
If you want:
- a few photos with your pet
and - the rest without them
…you must bring a friend, family member, or pet handler to supervise them.
They can take your dog for a walk, wait in the car (weather permitting), or simply entertain them while we continue with the session.
This keeps things smooth, safe, and relaxed — especially for families with young kids.
🧺 What to Bring When Including Pets in Your Session
Here’s a helpful checklist:
- water + travel bowl
- small treats
- waste bags
- lint roller
- favorite toy
- harness or collar + leash
- a calming tool (if needed), such as a quiet chew or comfort item
Little touches like these help sessions run smoothly!

FAQ
1. Can we bring our dog or pets to the session?
Yes! Well-behaved pets are welcome for outdoor sessions in The Woodlands, Texas, and case-by-case in the Cherry Street Studios indoor space. Pets must stay leashed outdoors, be up to date on vaccinations, and you should bring a helper if you want photos with and without your pet.
2. Are pets allowed in the studio?
Studio pet sessions are evaluated based on temperament, size, and overall safety. Please notify me ahead of time so I can make appropriate arrangements.
3. What requirements do pets need to meet?
Pets must be non-aggressive, well-behaved, clean, and current on vaccinations. Dogs must remain on a leash outdoors.
4. What if my pet gets anxious or excited during the session?
No worries! Many pets feel nervous at first. I allow extra time for them to sniff, settle, and get comfortable. Bringing treats, toys, and a familiar blanket helps. If your pet is highly anxious, we may start with simpler poses or quiet locations.
5. Can you remove leashes in editing?
Yes — in most cases, I can remove the leash in post-processing as long as it’s not tangled or covering major parts of the subject. Safety comes first, so leashes must stay on during the session.
